Prime Minister Stephen Harper admitted the anti-terror bill tabled in the House of Commons Friday would not have stopped the Oct. 22, 2014, attack in Ottawa.
Newly tabled anti- terrorism legislation would give Canada’s spy agency more power to thwart a suspected extremist’s travel plans, disrupt bank transactions and covertly interfere with radical websites.
The U.S. has been keeping regular intelligence on potential security threats in Canada, including the activities of First Nations groups, according to two cables sent by the U.S. embassy in Ottawa and obtained by APTN National News.
