Yves Sioui Durand has a long list of achievements and last week added another with a 2017 Governor-General’s lifetime achievement award in the performing arts.
The Huron-Wendat writer, director, filmmaker and actor was surprised by the award, but also touched by the honour.
“Just to have that recognition I would say give me the sense I (have not) worked for nothing,” he said.
Sioui Durand spoke to APTN about this his career, the award and founding Ondinnok, the first Indigenous Francophone theatre company in Canada.
