APTN National News
A Winnipeg woman is asking questions after she witnessed police bring in a bloodied youth into the emergency room over the weekend.
Kari Cobiness says she was waiting at the hospital for her husband when the teenager was brought in.
When police wouldn’t answer her questions about what happened, Cobiness started taking pictures.
APTN’s Shaneen Robinson has this story.
I suggest u read the book “Institutional Racism: Aboriginal Encounters with the Police by Elizabeth Comack because stuff like this does not just happen.
Institutional racism.. when are the police going to stop targeting Indigenous ppl with violence? The police murder/kill our ppl & get away with it. Police brutality has to stop.. the police think they can take matters into their own hands & this happens all across Canada to Indigenous ppl, getn killed & beaten by police. In the case of Neil Stonechild (the Starlight Tours) proves that racism kills.
Where should the police bring an intoxicated bloodied youth? Why does the journalist not report what makes the woman think the police did this? Is the only evidence the youth’s statement.
This is some bad reporting. There is nothing more than speculation here. This kid was obviously in police custody for something. He was obviously having a bad day already, and now some stranger posted his face across the Internet to make him the face of police brutality? With no real evidence? How can we just assume that’s the case? From what we do know it’s highly unlikely as it is. He wouldn’t be in the youth centre without cause. And what right does this stranger have to post a kids picture online without consent? What happens if the story turns out to that he was a teenage boy being a teenage boy and he got in a fight. Maybe he had a couple beers and scrapped with a friend. Maybe he got jumped walking home. Maybe he had a fist fight with a parent or sibling? Maybe he deserves some privacy because it’s none of anyone’s business. I feel bad for this kid, and angry at this woman for pushing her own drama on him. If I was his parent I would be rightfully angry at her for using his picture to get some likes on Facebook. It’s stories like this one with no credibility that make no one take it seriously when there are real incidents of police brutality. Someone should read her the story of the boy who cried wolf.
Wondering why it is assumed that the police caused these injuries? An intoxicated young man claims that’s what happened. Best to know all the facts before passing judgement on ANYONE. There aren’t very many facts disclosed in this story. I think this story borders on irresponsible journalism and sensationalism. I’m disappointed with APTN.
wheres the body camera’s on theses white officers
I hope the black, brown, red and yellow officers all wear body cameras! Are we told in this article that these officers are white? I didn’t see that.
