In 1994, Odelia and Nerissa Quewezance, two sisters from Keeseekoose First Nation, were convicted of second-degree in the death of a Saskatchewan farmer.
Joseph Dolff had been stabbed multiple times at the end of a night of drinking with the sisters and their 14-year cousin in 1993. He would later admit to the murder.
Despite the confession, the sisters were put on trial and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 14 years.
Fast forward to 2023, Odelia and Nerissa have been in custody – or involved with the justice system – for nearly 30 years.
Now advocates are coming forward calling for their release while the federal minister of justice reviews their case for a “possible miscarriage of justice.”
