Anthony Bilodeau has exhausted his chances of appealing a second-degree murder conviction in the deaths of two Métis hunters in 2022.

The Supreme Court of Canada said Thursday it would not grant the Alberta man leave to appeal. As is its practice, the court does not give its reason.

In March, Alberta’s Court of Appeal unanimously dismissed Anthony’s appeal.

Bilodeau was 34 when he was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years for killing Maurice Cardinal, 57, and another eight years concurrently for the manslaughter of Jacob Sansom, 39.

He and his father, Roger, chased down Cardinal and his nephew Sansom on March 27, 2020 at a rural intersection in Glendon, Alta., 200 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, and shot them.

A security camera recorded Anthony shooting and killing Sansom within seconds of arriving and Cardinal moments later.

Anthony and his father were tried together. Roger, 59, was convicted of two counts of manslaughter in 2022 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, but given a credit of 4.5 years for time served. He is now out on parole.
