The president of the Northern Gateway Pipelines has been busy meeting with First Nations in an effort to get them onside with their pipeline project.
In the first part of our interview with President John Carruthers he tells APTN 26 First Nations in British Columbia and Alberta have now signed a deal indicating their support for the pipeline.
The remainder of the interview will broadcast tonight and be available online Wednesday.
Northern Gateway will never happen- white man always speak with forked tongue.
He was obviously well-coached by PR experts. The 26 agreements are simply buy-ins the Chief and Councils for the 26 FNs signed for equity in the project if it goes through. They didn’t sign off their right to object if the environmental protections are not strong enough. The Northern Gateway’s president’s spin that these do indicate support for the project has to be placed in context.
At the time of impact many FN traded their inheritance for beads and poisoned blankets. I see no difference today in Chiefs and so called representatives of FN communities accepting money from large corporations like this to look at ways to put pipelines across the land of FN ancestors and endangering the land.
When are we going to wake up and strengthen the things that remain, money cannot replace what money can destroy.
