Many survivors of residential schools have had their compensation claims denied, including those who submitted paperwork through the Independent Assessment Process reserved for those who endured the worst of the abuse.
The denials are often because the federal government says their school doesn’t meet the criteria.
As the Wednesday deadline arrives for IAP applicants, APTN National News reporter Meagan Fiddler meets one of the survivors.
My mother had a double aneurysm 12 yrs ago, 2 yrs ago she went before a panel for her IAP. The adjudicators took advantage of her confusion and as such her claim has been denied. Very unethical!
