This week the federal government tabled the First Nations Financial Transparency Act.
It would require all First Nations to make public the salaries of their chief and council.
It would also make financial statements of their operations accessible to the public.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indians says it welcomes the transparency and accountability it will bring.
They hope how, the government will spend their time and energy on addressing important issues like housing, education and safe drinking water.
In the past, the FSIN has repeatedly called for a First Nations auditor general’s office.
