SASKATOON –– A 36 year-old Saskatchewan man who fell for an RCMP “Mr. Big Sting” was found guilty of murder Wednesday in the killing and then burning of a 25 year-old Onion Lake Cree Nation woman a decade ago.

Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Gerald Allbright ruled that Douglas Hales was guilty of second degree murder in the death of Daleen Bosse.

Bosse, who was married and the mother of a three year-old child, was nearing the completion of an education degree at the University of Saskatchewan in May 2004 when she disappeared after a showing up at a local night club.

Hales was initially charged with first degree murder in 2008 after Bosse’s charred body was discovered by police. Hales led police to Bosse’s body in a rural area north of Saskatoon after he was snared in an RCMP Mr. Big Sting.

Hales killed then burned Bosse’s body.

Saskatoon Police Chief Clive Weighill said in 2008 that Hales had been a suspect since early on in the murder investigation.

  1. shayla says:

he deserves life in prison and the death penalty , ! in canada our law for murder is so stupid, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I hope the family can find some peace now. So glad for the way APTN portrayed the story and the victim.

  3. Thank God its done!!It will never bring our beautiful Daleen back though and so hard for the family dealing with this 10 years. My heart and prayers with her beautiful daughter and all the family members today.

  4. good for that guy..anyway 2nd degree.?just because he’s a white guy?…also 10 years for a conviction..geez

    1. 2nd degree is murder with the intent to murder, but without the premeditation of 1st degree murder.

Manslaughter. I get mad and push a guy, he falls into an electric fence and dies.

Second degree murder. I get mad at a guy, see a sign that says “CAUTION, ELECTRIC FENCE” and push him into it, knowing it can kill him.

First degree murder. I get mad at a guy, and follow him for days, learn his routine and wait until he walks past an electric fence at the same time every day, run up, and push him into the fence.

So, no, it’s not because he’s white. 10 years is a long time, though, for sure.

    2. 2nd degree murder lacks the premeditation part of the first degree charge. Race has nothing to do with it. Funny, my other comment explaining the difference in manslaughter, 2nd degree murder, and 1st degree murder wasn’t approved. Maybe I need to make accusations of racism, as opposed to explaining why a 2nd degree murder charge may have been placed instead of 1st degree murder?
