Saskatchewan chief can keep title while serving child sex jail sentence

The chief of a southern Saskatchewan First Nation has been sentenced to nine months in jail for sexually assaulting a minor on his reserve.

The chief of a southern Saskatchewan First Nation has been sentenced to nine months in jail for sexually assaulting a minor on his reserve.

However, the Indian Act allows Chief Terrance McArthur to remain as chief while serving his sentence.

  2. I think it is wrong. And I agree there should be changes made to the Indian Act, BUT, the changes must be made by the 1st Nations people, not by the government or non 1st Nations People. The Government and others have wronged us to many times.
