The R-C-M-P is investigating the death of a four-year-old girl in central Alberta.
According to police, the child was injured Sept. 18 while playing outside with other children in Maskwacis, formerly known as Hobbema.
Police say they stepped in because of the seriousness of her injuries. ‘She had severe enough injuries for us to get involved,’ said RCMP Sgt. Jose Valiquette. According to police, the children playing outside at the time were of similar age.
The girl, who is not being named, was sent to an Edmonton hospital for care where she died on Sept 27.
An autopsy was performed in Edmonton but the results have not been released yet. The police say it could be weeks before tests are complete and they have an idea of what took place.
Alberta Human Services confirms the child was under its care.
