More than five years ago, Ashley Marie Simpson vanished just outside Salmon Arm, B.C.
On Tuesday, police announced that her body has been located.
“I can confirm that Ashley’s remains were located on November 26th, 2021 in a wilderness area outside of Salmon Arm,” the police said. “On Friday, December the 3rd, 2021, the BC Prosecution Service approved one charge of 2nd-degree murder against 39-year-old Derek Favel.
Police say Favel was Simpson’s boyfriend at the time. He was arrested “without incident” on Dec. 3 in Kelowna. He appeared in court the next day and will go before a judge again on Dec. 9.
Simpson is one of five women to have gone missing from the same area including her next-door neighbour Deanna Wertz who went missing four months later.
