Nunavut’s Impact Review Board is holding the final hearings for the Mary River Iron Ore Mine expansion.
These are public meetings, but in name only.
The board isn’t allowing the media to record or use testimony from the hearings in stories.
Even Members of Parliament weren’t permitted in the room.
“I tried to attend as a public member and was denied entrance,” said NDP MP Lori Idlout on Twitter. “I was given the link to watch via nirb website. With high cost of internet, who is willing to pay their bandwidth to be allowed to hear the stories, questions and the many no-responses.”
