Nunavut saw its protected areas grow by two Thursday after a visit from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau billed the announcement in Iqaluit a part of his Liberal party’s strategy on climate change, leading up to the national election in October.
He said a new marine protected area near Arctic Bay would be known as the Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area, and a second area on the northwest coast of Ellesmere Island would be the Tuvaijuittuq Marine Protected Area.
Tuvaijuittuq means “the place where the ice never melts.”
