The northern Ontario community of Pikangikum has suffered from a fire, according to the OPP.
OPP Sgt. John Whitney said it’s believe there were fatalities as a result of the fire, but there are few details at the moment.
Whitney said the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is headed to the community to investigate.
The OPP said in a statement there were “a number of persons” dead as a result of the fire that started late Tuesday night and several remain unaccounted for.
According to a community member, at least three children were killed in the house fire, along with six other family members.
Pikangikum First Nation is a fly in community located 509 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay.
