The dream of a young girl from Attawapiskat has inspired a politician in Canada’s Parliament.
NDP MP Charlie Angus introduced a motion Thursday honouring the cause of Shannen Koostachin.
Koostachin grew up in Attawapiskat and never knew what a real school was like. She attended school in portable trailers after the community’s original elementary school was ruined by a diesel spill.
She later died in a car accident while attending school in the south.
Angus introduced a motion calling for equal rights for First Nation children.
