The United Nation’s weather agency is warning that the ozone layer’s depletion layer reached a new low this year over the arctic.
The ozone layer protects the earth’s inhabitants from deadly ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
The earth temporarily loses about 30 per cent of the ozone seasonally.
This year, however, it has lost about 40 per cent.
Harmful chemicals and the cold weather are said to be culprits.
An international treaty was signed in 1987 to reduce the use of harmful chemicals.
It is hoped that some significant improvement will be evident by 2030 or 2040.
