A unique Arctic research facility will be closing its doors for good.
Researchers at the Polar Environment Atmospheric Research laboratory failed in a last-ditch attempt to secure funding.
A federal grant had been cut and they were unsuccessful in finding money to replace it.
The laboratory measured air quality, ozone levels and climate change throughout the year.
Data about the world’s atmosphere collected here was shared with scientists around the globe.
The lab was located on Ellesmere Island, approximately 1,000 kilometres from the North Pole.
