An MLA in Nunavut has been asking a lot of questions about why the RCMP has moved its emergency response team 2,000 km from Iqaluit to Montréal to the south.
“We should have a discussion as to what the hell is going on,” said MLA Paul Okalik. “This is a very bad sign of a bureaucratic government, and that’s not what Nunavut was meant to be.”
The move comes as the Nunavt RCMP dealt with a busy week including a hostage taking.
The RCMP blames a lack of qualified Mounties as the problem.
APTN contacted the RCMP to comment on the issues but calls were not returned.
We want to pay the lowest price possible and expect the Cadillac of policing with all specialized services. Not realistic. Nobody wants to transfer there as the job itself and living conditions are terrible.
Why does Nunavut have a hard time? Imagine Poland only getting groceries once a year. Imagine calling the cops on Sweden and being told ” they will fly in from Holland”.
