something similar was tried in Kenora about 10 years ago through a CMHC grant and it failed because it did not take into account how people actually lived or wanted to live. (The house occupants put the thermostat in the fridge to turn up the heat as the ‘green energy’ was set at 68 deg F. ). its also my understanding that most ovens and dryers need more power than solar provides…Green housing is a lifestyle–not a technological trick.
What about the cost of upkeep for the solar panels our electricians and carpenters on the rez need to be trained for something of this higher end technology. However it looks like a great idea. maybe still needs some tweaking they should run trials for discounted houses to reserves maybe 5 or 10 see how it goes.
