TYENDINAGA, Ont.–Six Mohawks from Tyendinaga involved in a 2008 blockade have escaped jail time.
The five men and one woman, all from the Tyendinaga Mohawk reserve, received a one-year probation sentence.
Ontario Provincial Police had charged the six with mischief-related offenses.
Two more people will be sentenced next week.
The blockade was sparked by a developer’s attempt to build on claimed Mohawk territory.
