A monument honouring the families and lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls went up on Manitoba’s Sagkeeng First Nation this week.
The likeness of a bronze jingle dancer has been three years in the making for the community 120 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
Her name if Ka Kih Gay-Pimitchy-Yoong Pimatiziwin, which means “life flows forever” in English.
It is hoped she will not only be a symbol of pain, but also resilience and healing.
