Kahnawá:ke has a new state of the art baseball facility thanks to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Last week community leaders, elders and youth baseball players opened the new facility built with the help of an $80,000 donation from the Jays Care Foundation via the charity’s Field of Dreams program.
But it’s more than just a diamond and a field — it’s an opportunity for youth and the wider community, some say.
“With this option their playing years have ben extended,” Mackenzie Whyte, recreation manager for the Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke, said of the community’s youth who play the sport. “They have the option now to–maybe some want to go to school for baseball, playing baseball while they’re in school.”
