One of two men, who took part in the violent attacks against two women in Winnipeg in Nov. 2014, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Justin Hudson learned his fate at a sentencing hearing Monday.
Hudson, along with an underage co-accused, attacked two women on the same night. They left the first victim for dead on a Winnipeg riverbank.
Both victims cannot be named due to a publication ban.
The first attack was on a 16-year-old girl. She was robbed, beaten and sexually assaulted. The two men left her along the Assiniboine River where she crawled along the banks.
They found her alive and continued to beat her.
The second victim was attacked hours later. Hudson and his co-accused came across the woman in the early hours of the morning. She was repeatedly beaten and sexually assaulted.
Both victims survived their attacks.
The first victim later went on to become an advocate for the national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
Hudson previously pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault.
His lawyer was asking for a sentence of twelve to fourteen years, citing he was a “poster child” for the failure of Manitoba’s child and welfare system.
it is time for harsher punishments , and maybe others will think twice before committing such offences. people know they can get away with a slap on the wrist in canada. it’s time to send a message this won’t be tolerated. if you have a bad past, get help. stop making excuses to do harm to others. life has no value in canada , that needs to be changed.
About time Justice is Served l am happy to see he went to Jail for a very long time, give the other one Life!!
