His son was shot dead eight years ago by Winnipeg police but on Friday Brian McDougall heard something he’s been waiting for.
The judge presiding over the inquest apologized.
“I’m really … touched by what the judge said at the end of the hearing when she apologized for what happened to me,” said McDougall.
It’s been a long while waiting for an inquest into Craig McDougall’s death.
The family’s lawyer has been pushing for the judge to accept that systemic racism played a factor in the death.
“I think that the evidence we’ve seen proves that beyond any sort of doubt,” said lawyer Corey Shefman.
The judge has six months to release her final report, but it’s not expected to take that long.
