STURGEON LANDING, Sask.— A suspect in a kidnapping and killing, who barricaded himself in a Sturgeon Landing, Sask. home, was arrested by police Thursday night.
The RCMP had the home surrounded that Jonas Budd had been holed up in for about a day following the high profile alleged kidnapping of his former step daughter.
He was taken into custody at about 10:30 p.m. without incident.
Budd has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and several other offences.
Budd had been on the run from Saskatchewan RCMP since the early morning hours Wednesday. Budd fled a Lac La Ronge, Sask., home after allegedly kidnapping Kayla Notamagan,17, from a home where Dustin Bird, 17, was found dead.
Budd released the girl in Manitoba, just across the provincial boundary, and then fled several kilometres back into Saskatchewan on foot and through the bush to Sturgeon Landing.
The RCMP tracked Budd to his current location.
Budd is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
