Tempers flared as Idle No More protesters confronted Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt at a media conference in Winnipeg Wednesday.
Valcourt was in town to talk about new federal legislation that forces band councils to basically show people the money.
As APTN National News reporter Ntawnis Piapot reports not every0ne was happy with the annoucement.
For five centuries, the government has been telling us what is good for, and cutting back on critical programs, is their way of punishing us for protesting. And bringing their genocide way to the United Nation, Tribunal for the world to see how terrible they treat First Nations in Canada. Nice when they are out of office. Either NDP or Liberal government will b more sympathic, hopefully these bills will be destroyed.
Colin Craig – There are MANY provincial and federal leaders out there who are not transparent either, what is Canada and the Tax Payer Association doing about NOT ignoring them!?
Although I believe there should be transparency to the people of each reserve, I do not believe that not consulting with FN before any bills is passed is democratic and undermines the right to consultation. I also believe that whatever is expected by Chiefs of reserves should apply to all levels of government to be held accountable with the same transparency.
The other issue I have with this is the lack of transparency to Canadians from the government as to where the money for FN funding come from to dispell the myths that are creating racism and also how Canadians benefit from that money.
Idle No More: Rising to the anger bait will give fuel to the racists and credibility to our horrible government.
Chief Spence had the best approach: slow and steady.
That’s right Mr. Valcourt!
The problem with the bill and the clown posse called the Canadian Taxpayers Federation is that they paint all reserves, all chiefs and councils with the same absurd brush. Yet the 6 member CTF is not even accountable themselves, try and find out how much their 6 members are getting paid to shill for the harper government. Good luck.
Perhaps you would like to go back to 2:22 in the video and LISTEN and then come back and tell us about “they paint all reserves, all chiefs and councils with the same absurd brush.”
Then why the unilateral legislation that effects all First Nations if there are only SOME chiefs who aren’t “open & transparent”?
