The BC provincial government and the Taku River Tlingit First Nation have signed a land resource management agreement, covering three million hectares of land — an area roughly the size of Vancouver Island.
The Taku River Tlingit are calling the agreement “Wooshtin Wudidaa”, which means “flowing together, like two rivers”, according to band spokesperson John Ward. The name symbolizes the two sides coming together after years of contentious negotiations. Meanwhile, Premier Christy Clark is calling the agreement “historic”.
