I have BEEN to Driftpile BEFORE.
I worked on the TEACHERAGE in the freezing cold one winter, framing the shell.
I had to ask myself, “Why bother to build a place for TEACHERS, in a place like DRIFTPILE?” “And why does it have to in a bare spot beside the HIGHWAY?”
I didn’t like the answers I got, anymore than I liked ANY of the answers I got when I asked about other projects, and other places.
The answer is, to both of the questions, is “government funding”.
DROUGHT and FIRE should have taught the industries in Alberta to CONSERVE, but it did not. The many thousands of logs which were exported as “engineered wood products” will never be replaced, and none of the fire-damaged logs can be used.
And fire-damaged logs present a risk of fire as long as they remain in place. They also present a risk of infestation by parasites, such as the pine beetle.
No amount of “brainstorming” can bring back the WATER that was once there …
Sad but true.
Loggers have been going crazy in Alberta with clearcutting. Time to slow it down.
