Traditional healer charged with sexual assault in northwestern Ontario

Langford Ogemah, 73, was charged with sexual assault on March 1 by the Ontario Provincial Police in Kenora, Ont.

An 73-year-old traditional healer has been charged with sexual assault and the alleged victim is a former client of a healing camp he ran in 2021 southeast of Kenora, Ont., APTN has learned.

Langford Ogemah was charged with one count of sexual assault on March 1 by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Court documents confirmed that police allege the assault took place between June 29, 2021 and Dec. 30, 2021.

Ogemah was removed as the leader and “visionary” of the Gamikaan Bimaadiziwin Healing Centre on Bug Lake around Christmastime in 2021.

APTN has confirmed the alleged victim is a former client of the camp who was there to work on years of trauma.

When contacted by APTN, Ogemah denied any wrongdoing in an interview.

Ogemah told APTN after he was removed as leader of the camp, he went on to become an addictions worker for his First Nation, Wauzhushk Onigum, next to Kenora.

His first court appearance is scheduled for March 16.

The Grand Council of Treaty 3 received nearly $500,000 in funding to build an all-season roundhouse lodge on site of the healing camp last September.
