A six-year-old boy last seen at his school breakfast program has been found deceased in northeastern Manitoba.
Shamattawa RCMP announced the discovery Sunday night after more than three days of searching for Johnson Redhead in the remote community about 745 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
“It is with great sadness that we share the following information on the search for Johnson Redhead,” said the RCMP in a news release. “Earlier, at 7:45 pm, searchers located 6 year old Johnson deceased. His body was found in a marshy area, approximately 3.5 kilometres from the school where he was last seen.”
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and community mourning the loss of this little boy, taken far too soon. This unimaginable tragedy will be felt deeply by many, and our hearts are with you all during this difficult time. https://t.co/qIDqKX6sep

Johnson, who was non-verbal, disappeared from his school on Thursday morning and was reported missing over the noon hour.
Members of the community immediately began looking for him, according to social media post, to be joined by the RCMP who said in a release they brought in drones, extra officers and a tracking dog.

Meanwhile, a nearly parallel search in British Columbia had a different ending.
The RCMP said Oaklynn Schwedder, who vanished Thursday from her community of Southbank in north-central B.C., was found Sunday night around 6 p.m.
Police say the six-year-old was located in a forested area that had already been searched between her home and the First Nation band office.
They say searchers believe she was likely moving around during the time she was missing, so she may not have been in the area when it was first searched.
Oaklynn was also non-verbal, police said.
