The federal government told the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal that it is complying with a ruling that ordered it to stop discriminating against First Nations children on reserves.
The ruling came out Jan. 2016 after a nine year battle to try and get Canada to spend as much on First Nation child welfare services as provinces spend off reserve.
Months after the historic ruling, Canada was issued three non-compliance orders for not following the tribunal’s ruling.
For three days, groups led by Cindy Blackstock, executive director of the First Nation Child and Family Caring Society, have been arguing that Canada must abide by the ruling.
