Former pilot, politician claims ‘will and drive’ propelled him to Order of Canada

A former politician, entrepreneur and commercial pilot will soon be inducted into the Order of Canada.

Inuk Johnny N. Adams from Kuujuaq in northern Quebec agrees he has lived a remarkable life.

But he says his greatest accomplishment is giving back to his community.

“I was surprised and humbled to be told that I was being appointed an officer of the Order of Canada,” he told APTN News.

Adams is among a handful of Indigenous inductees this year.

Seventeen years earlier, he was appointed a knight of the National Order of Quebec.

“It does not matter where you are coming from,” he says now. “If you have got the will and the drive to make a difference, anyone can do it.”

Adams is being recognised by Canada for advancing economic and social development in Nunavik and in his home community of Kuujjuaq, approximately 1,443 km from Montreal.
