According to our ancestral traditions practiced for thousands of years prior to colonialism, if a person was of proven descent of a recognized Inuit, First Nation or Metis ancestor and identified as such, that person was accepted as a citizen within his community and nation. As Indigenous peoples, we were respectful of all our ancestors and children.
Likewise today, as proven documented descendants of recognized indigenous ancestors, Mr. Bertrand, Mr. Daniels, Senator Brazeau and all other Cap affiliate members who, like them, identify as being Inuit, First Nation or Metis of proven indigenous descent are considered as equals and citizens of their respective CAP affiliated communities.
Consequently, apart from perpetuating colonialism, prejudice, bigotry, “blood quantum” racism, hatred, lateral violence and/or simply trying to discredit CAP leadership and to divide its membership for political purposes and/or personal gain, exactly what other purpose can be served by challenging duly elected CAP National Chief Bertrand indigenous identity and, implicitly, the indigenous identity of thousands of other individuals like him across Canada who are also members of CAP affiliates?
Indigenous Ancestry? There are far too many claims and wanna-bes out to be recognized as First people. This Government system is screwed and has no values for First Nations.
To be a First Nation person, one should prove 100% blood quantum. 50-% European ancestry just don’t cut it.
Have a good day.
We are in agreement on peaceful protest in solidarity
