Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett says more work is needed to rid the Indian Act of discriminatory practices.
Bennett made the comments while appearing before the Senate’s Aboriginal Affairs committee.

It is a shame it took a lawsuit to get the government to listen to 60’s Scoop adoptees.
Father’s names were *illegally* removed/omiited from original birth registrations of 60’s Scoop adoptees from 1960 to 1980 in Ontario. The UN has asked both the provincial Ontario government to put them back and Federal government to ensure that they do.
Both governments still refuse.
There can be no reconciliation until the records are put right.
This issue is going to be raised again at the UN.
Shame on both governments for not doing something about this human rights violation. Truly disgraceful.
One other thing – what is the government doing to do about all those false death certificates issued to living children who were adopted out. Their families were told they were dead when that was not true.
The adoption records and the death records need to be cross-referenced to find the living adoptees who are still alive. Dead children cannot be adopted out.
After that, the death records should be annulled.

The “deny until they die” tactic is totally unacceptable.
