A documentary about mother and daughter activists who have dedicated their lives to continuing traditional ways of life is making its premier at the Women in Film Festival in Vancouver.
Told through archival footage and shots of modern day, Warrior Women tells the story of Madonna Thunder Hawk and her daughter Marcella Gilbert.
“When I was young the government built a series of dams all along the Missouri River,” said Gilbert. “We lost almost a million acres of our land the cotton woods and willows and all the natural foods.
“It all went under our whole lifestyle changed overnight.”
