The Northwest Territories continues to grapple with its biggest COVID-19 outbreak yet.
At latest report, the N.W.T. had 220 cases, 190 of which were in an isolated region.
Now it has also recorded the death of an Indigenous elder – the first death to the Coronavirus in the territory.
“This Elder was a very active member of the Elders that had just a tremendous amount of knowledge on history and traditional ways,” said Chief Tommy Kakfwi of Fort Good Hope Dene band.
“Just a whole library of information went with the Elder.”
Kakfwi’s 600-member community is now in lockdown for 10 days with 84 active cases.
