A 29-year-old woman pulled from a house fire with a gunshot wound early Tuesday morning was Tina Fontaine’s cousin police confirmed Thursday.
Jeanenne Fontaine was a mother of three and is the city’s eighth homicide of the year after succumbing to her injuries in hospital Wednesday.
Her cousin Tina made national headlines when the teenager’s body was pulled from Red River, also a victim of homicide, in 2014.
Police say they need the public’s help to solve Jeanenne’s homicide.
Her family said she was shot in the back of the head before the home was set on fire, a home she shared with her mother.
“I can’t even put my own mind into those people’s mind. Why would they do that to a little woman like that?” said her aunt Rhonda Flett.
Police confirmed the house was set on fire to cover up the murder. They also say Jeanenne was charged in 2015, along with three others, for allegedly trafficking a minor. She was on bail at the time of her murder.
Police couldn’t confirm whether this played a role in her death.
