Canada marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with events across country

Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, marks the third annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. APTN News will have stories from across the country on how communities are marking the day.

The day recognizes the history of Canada’s residential school system and how it harmed First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples and their communities.

A national ceremony will be held in Ottawa with Gov. Gen. Mary Simon in attendance as well as Algonquin Elder Claudette Commanda.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in Saskatchewan for events there.

APTN’s coverage will start at 12:30 p.m. ET and will run until the national ceremony on Parliament Hill begins at 1 p.m. ET. The APTN National News will also host a post-ceremony show at 2:30 p.m. ET.
