Time could be running out for Sammie Murdock, a mother of two young children in Prince George, B.C. who is in desperate need of a new kidney.
And it’s not the first time the 35-year-old has gone through this.
“Back in 1999 I was 16 years old and they told me (my kidney) was scarred and it was failing,” said Murdock. “I didn’t know about anything that was going on because I was just young.”
Five years later she was given a kidney by an anonymous donor.
She was told the kidney was rejecting her body in 2012 and would need a second transplant. She also had part of her colon removed because of cancer.
For the last five years she has endured dialysis three times a week for three hours a session.
“I get these massive headaches,” she said. “I always have high blood pressure no matter what.”
The problem is Murdock needs to find a donor with the blood type like hers, which is 0 positive. She requires a donor with 0 blood, too.
Her boyfriend of 17 years has put an advertisement on the back of the window of his truck hoping someone might come forward and give his girlfriend the gift of life.
Everyone seems to think the organ transplant process is quick and easy – almost like shopping in a grocery store. It’s a lengthy process, requiring lots of tests, medications and examinations. The process is also “colour-blind”. There is no favourtism involved, as patients are screened through a selective process based on various factors, including lifestyle, pre-existing medical conditions, possibility of rejection, and level of follow-up, to name a few.

Crazy.
My step-son Logan Erickson (your old neighbor on third avenue) also needs a kidney.

Geez, I’m same blood type, but my hypothyroidism is causing a barrier to donating.
I touched base w the hospital she’s registered w last year & everything.
I am hoping n praying she gets the kidney she needs.
