VANCOUVER–British Columbia’s embattled opposition leader resigned Monday amid deepening strife within the provincial NDP.
NDP leader Carole James quit her post after realizing she could not fend off a revolt within her party.
James said she made the decision to prevent a deeper split in the party.
James, a Metis, was raised in North Battleford, Sask. She moved to Prince George, B.C., to serve as the director of child and family services for Carrier Sekani Family Services before she became the co-ordinator of the Northern Aboriginal Authority for Families.
James departure follows that of outgoing BC Premier Gordon Campbell who also resigned recently amid plunging popularity.
