Alberta child advocate Del Graff says the provincial government seems to be ignoring a series of recommendations on how to keep children safe while in care.
Del Graff made the comments while he released a report on the deaths of three children – two-year old Traezlin Denzel Starlight, 15-month old Jay Johnson, and five-year old Shalaina Arcand.
All had been returned to their birth parents after spending most of their short lives in foster homes.
“There is not the same level of attention paid to the children when they are returning to their families as there is when they are brought into care,” said Graff. “I think my references are becoming a bit harsher because in many ways I am not feeling the government is hearing the recommendations and acting on them in the way I hoped they would. So we are just asking for a plan. That’s not too difficult or problematic to produce.”
