You can call it pizza – or a pie. Eat all of it – or just a slice. Order a thin crust or thick. Cut it into squares or wedges. Cover it with cheese, or sausage, basil, pineapple, anchovies – literally anything you want.
While people may debate its name – or its toppings, one thing most can agree on is that pizza is delicious.
And today – that’s what we’re talking about on InFocus.
According to statistics, pizza was a $48 billion business in North America in 2020.
Originating in Italy, the pie was introduced to Canada and the United States in the 19th century. From there, it took off.
On this InFocus, we’re joined from coast to coast with a variety of chefs and restaurant owners who make it a living selling pizza to you.
Starting in the west, we have Paul Natrall who in Vancouver is known as Mr. Bannock; in northern Manitoba, James O’Rourke, also known as Jimmy Num Nums and from Whycocomagh in Nova Scotia, we get a taste of Skye Mountain pizza.
We also received hundreds of submissions for your favourite pizzas – explore here.
