The federal government announced today that it will deliver on a promise to eliminate water woes on First Nation communities.
According to Canada, there are nearly 100 communities across the country where people cannot drink the water from their taps.
On Thursday, Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett insisted the government’s plan is on track and by 2021, there will be no First Nations under long-term water advisories.
This issue is a real and pressing one which reguires real attention. For most/all other Canadians it is an expected right to have safe drinking water! Yet in many First Nation/Inuit communities this right is lacking or non existent! I work as a Mental Health Practitioner in First Nation/inuit communities where the everyday problems of life are only exacerbated by the lack of this basic need. What this minister and many before her provide is only rethoric and false promises!!
