John Graham has been sentenced to life in prison.
The sentence ends a 3 decade old murder story for the family of Anna-Mae Pictou Aquash.
In the 1970’s, Pictoe Aquash left her home in Nova Scotia to join the American Indian Movement or AIM as it’s commonly known.
But in 1976, things went terribly wrong. Aquash was found shot to death on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She had been executed.
Speculation has swirled for years about the identity of her killer or killers and some even blamed the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Eventually, two men would stand trial for her murder.
The first was Arlo Looking Cloud.
The second, Canadian John Graham.
In December, Graham, a man originally from a Yukon First Nation was convicted of her murder.
Yesterday, he was sentenced to life in prison.
Graham’s lawyer John Murphy says his client will appeal the conviction and sentencing.
Looking Cloud is also serving a life sentence for aiding and abetting Pictou-Aquash’s murder.
He was convicted in 2004 and is also appealing his conviction.
