WHITEHORSE —The City of Whitehorse is in its final countdown to host the 2012 Arctic Winter Games.
Come this Sunday the city will be filled with over 2,000 athletes, cultural participants, coaches, mission staff and officials from Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland, Russia and Scandinavia
The bi-annual games started in 1970, as an international celebration of northern sport, culture and friendship bringing athletes and cultural groups from nine contingents from the circumpolar north .
During the seven days of the Games, at venues across Whitehorse, athletes will compete in 20 sports, like soccer, hockey , figure skating and traditional Inuit and Dene games.
While cultural participants will give expression to their region’s art and culture.
