A poll released Monday on the 10th anniversary of Canada’s apology for residential schools, shows Canadians have strong and divided feelings about many areas including treaties, government attention to Indigenous issues, and funding of them.
Angus Reid surveyed 2,500 people and found more people believe Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is paying “too much” attention to Indigenous issues, rather than “too little”.
And while most Canadians agree that the attention and money currently being devoted to Indigenous issues in Canada is not particularly effective, they vary wildly in their perspectives about how to change this status quo.
More Key Findings:
Despite the deep divides in some areas, 61 per cent of respondents say they have optimism about the future of the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians.

The poll is very accurate, if we consider the opinions of those regarding Indigenous issues on social media. The opinions are shallow and degrading, with that Colonization mentality. Murder, rape, and destroy an entire culture, steal, rape and destroy the land. Don’t allow them to Vote until 1960, and keep Residential schools open until the late 1990’s. Keep all Reserves the most impoverished on Canadian soil, with the lowest Educational funding. Make sure the water is toxic and send in Corporations to toxify the land. Infringe on all hunting and fishing rights, while the Canadian government under the British Crown who stole the land, to keep denying that it is in fact Indigenous land and get all descendents of immigrants who came here to continue to live in denial as well. Then, turn around as say, “They need to get off what’s left of their land, and just get over it all”? That’s the ultimate sting of Colonization and they are more than happy to partake in it. It seems like they can never inflict enough horror and pain upon Indigenous peoples. Canadians will continue to do so, because the only other alternative would be to say, “Let’s finally make the wrongs, right”.

Indigenous people are the only “race” that dont have their own country. Its about time we do because caucasians do, asians do, africans do, etc. It is coming, the native population is growing and settlers are dwindling because they still choose money and career over family and environment.

Angus Reid surveys and all Internet surveys are Inherently Flawed as the respondent does not need to verify their identity or information. Who’s to say one person didn’t do the survey multiple times? Less attention needs to be paid to these incorrect surveys, which are dependant on an Internet connection/device to even be considered for input.
so Settlers get to have a voice on their colonization of Indigenous peoples and we get to hear their opinions lol ??? no thanks , Settlers need to stop entering into the conversation… We have our own voice, we do not want assimilation, we want our distinct culture and Identity and it is not up for Canadians who stole the land and oppressed the Original peoples to decide how WE move forward… more oppression and systemic racism
