Chiefs from Treaty 8 came to Victoria, B.C. last week to return three yellow stakes to NDP Premier John Horgan and two of his ministers.
The stakes were part of the fundraising done for the Treaty 8 defence fund to stop the Site C dam project. They were purchased by the NDP before they were in power.
Cheques from the NDP were also returned because now that the NDP is in power they support the project.
“The Site C decision is a political decision. It’s got nothing to do with jobs or what’s good for B.C.,” said Chief Roland Wilson of Moberly Lake First Nation.
“It’s got to do with getting re-elected.”
The NDP made a campaign promise to send the project for review with the B.C. Utilities Commission and now that it is complete it shows that it’s cheaper to stop the project than proceed.
However, the NDP approved the project.
Wilson said they are currently taking the government to court for infringing on their treaty rights.
“We want a forever injunction,” he said. “We want this project killed.”
This was a betrayal of the BC voters’ trust. $10Billion put into development of Solar, Wind, Geothermal and Tidal energy would yield more energy and hundreds times more permanent jobs without devastating the Peace River valley.
The high cost of remediation of the construction site if the project is abandoned is not a legitimate reason to continue the construction. Simply pulling out and letting nature reclaim the area over time would be a much better course of action than continuing with the construction of the dam.
Did you notice the tap-dancing by the deputy leader of the Green Party? How convenient for them to lay all the blame on the NDP. Don’t be fooled. Andrew Weaver is a libertarian in green clothing. Time for a new party of common sense, independent individuals that can work with, and for, ALL British Columbians.
Politicians should take some advise from Trumps state of the union adress and make BC for British Columbians stop wasting money on projects that dont benefit BC taxpayers and dont give the big corporation from China any work in BC

Horgan, Clark and Mungall really shafted BC. The Site C dam is intended for use by the Albertan LNG corporations, the Albertan petrochemical industry and the multi-national LNG corporations and is not for BCers, because there are already two dams on the Peace River and because the dam sits atop the LNG Montney Formation. Encana Corp. of Calgary, has three processing plants on the Formation. Why should BC taxpayers and BC ratepayers pay for this boondoggle and for this corporate welfare with high electricity payments for the next fifty years? Most British Columbians live in southwest, so they can buy solar panels for electricity, and not rely on Site C. The BC NDP are under the sway of the big banks, the LNG industry and the LNG pipeline corporations. Site C is a big LNG corporate, rip-off. To view a list of the corporate predators, Google Montney Formation Wikipedia”.
Why are we building this, what Canada needs is to invest in solar and wind power we don’t need this They are scared of green power sources because they can’t keep charging for them.Scrap the whole plan. There are so much more ways to make power that doesent destroy our environment. Shame on the government.,
Where do they get off on not consulting the natives and just proceed with money schemes
