Conservative leader Andrew Scheer claims he only learned this week about Sen. Lynn Beyak’s letters of support regarding her stance on Indian residential schools that she posted on her Senate website.
But an email dated September 15 from a residential school survivor provided to APTN News, indicates that Scheer’s office was tipped off about the “support letters.”
Sen. Larry Smith, the Conservative leader in the Senate was also sent the email.
“I am disappointed that my email back in September was ignored,” said Garnet Angeconeb. “They knew all along she had those ‘support letters’ on her Parliamentary website.”
Scheer removed Beyak from the Conservative caucus late Thursday, not for posting the letters, but for not removing them after he asked her do to so according to a statement.
“I demanded Senator Beyak remove this content from her website. She refused,” Scheer said.
Scheer mentioned one comment in a letter was particularly offensive.
“To suggest that indigenous Canadians are lazy compared to other Canadians, is simply racist,” he said.
A spokesman for Scheer said his office gets 1,000 to 2,500 “pieces of correspondence” a week and it usually takes four to six months for people to get a response.
“We have about four or five staff members who are tasked with strictly doing that,” said Jake Enwright. “They work very, very hard to answer these inquiries as quickly as possible.”
Enwright maintained Scheer learned of the letters Jan. 2 and that Angeconeb’s email was in the que to receive a response.
“To continue to use a government paid website to push personal idealogy (sic), it only appears her caucus continues to allow her to spew out nonsensical and uninformed rhetoric,” Angeconeb wrote in mid-September.

I understand it can take some time to respond to a letter.
I do not understand in any way that it takes months and months to read a letter. In fact, how do they know what pile to put the letter in for responding (what issue is the response for) if they don’t read it? And, while these staffers are not likely at the top of the chain of management, surely they are tasked with the initiative to look into something that is a new issue–or pass along to one that is?
straight talk
She Should be fired. If you do not do that red___ks will continue their beliefs that FIRST NATIONS own this country.
