APTN News
Throughout 2017, APTN News brought you the stories of people who have been targeted by the Canada Revenue Agency over what the government says are unpaid taxes – including employees of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.
They worked for a temp company called OI Leasing that is situated in Six Nations in Ontario.
The company hired employees who worked tax-free because the main office was on a reserve.
But the government doesn’t see it that way and now thousands of people owe tens of thousands of dollars in back-taxes.
Too bad, that OI led people on. They should gotten a tax remission order or another type of agreement before telling people they did not have to pay taxes if they would be leased through their company. OI probably took their profits and I wonder if they are helping these poor people out of this jam that they got them in. When I worked off the reserve, and did not make much money I still paid taxes accordingly.

It’s an arbitrary ruling by CRA that aboriginals are exempt from paying taxes only if they work on a reserve.
